Hello! We want to tell you about our travels across the British Isles. We’ve been to lots of cool places including Gibraltar; There’s one place we haven’t been to yet though – Northern Ireland.
We’ve explored other parts of Britain, like England and Wales. Scotland was special for my family because we have roots in the MacGregor Clan. My family came together in Liverpool and moved with work across South Lancashire.
I was born in Greater Manchester (West side) and have relocated around England; firstly to Preston where I grew up followed by a short return to Leigh – the town of my birth. then we moved to Coventry where I lived for 20 years meeting my wife and having our two children there. My wife’s family is from places in Ireland – Kilkenny and Dublin, and she is from the Irish Lake District in County Westmeath. From Coventry work took us to Swindon in South West England and then after 37 years there retirement returned us to Greater Manchester’s Cheshire/Derbyshire’s Pennine border.
Halò! Tha sinn airson innse dhuibh mun turas againn air feadh Bhreatainn. Tha sinn air a bhith ann an tòrr à iteachan fionnar, nam measg Gibraltar; Tha aon à ite ann air nach robh sinn fhathast – Èirinn a Tuath.
Tha sinn air pà irtean eile de Bhreatainn a rannsachadh, leithid Sasainn agus a’ Chuimrigh. Bha Alba sònraichte dhan teaghlach agamsa oir tha freumhan againn ann an Clann MhicGriogair. Thà inig mo theaghlach còmhla ann an Liverpool agus ghluais iad le obair air feadh Lancashire a Deas.
Rugadh mi ann am Greater Manchester (Taobh an Iar) agus tha mi air gluasad timcheall Shasainn; an toiseach gu Preston far an do dh’fhà s mi suas agus thill mi goirid gu Leigh – baile mo bhreith. an uairsin ghluais sinn gu Coventry far an robh mi a’ fuireach airson 20 bliadhna a’ coinneachadh ri mo bhean agus an dithis chloinne againn an sin. Tha teaghlach mo bhean à à iteachan ann an Èirinn – Cill Chainninn agus Baile Àtha Cliath, agus ’s ann à Sgìre nan Loch Èireannach ann an Contae na h-Iarmhà a tha i. Bho Coventry thug obair sinn gu Swindon ann an Iar-dheas Shasainn agus an uairsin à s deidh 37 bliadhna an sin thill sinn air ais gu crìoch Greater Manchester ann an Cheshire/Derbyshire’s Pennine.
Cha bhiodh turas sam bith a Dhùn Èideann coileanta às aonais tadhal air an dà phrìomh à ite seo, Caisteal Dhùn Èideann agus Lùchairt Taigh an Ròid. Tha an dà chomharra-tìre ainmeil seo dìreach aig bà rr na beinne-deighe nuair a thig e gu na seallaidhean agus na h-eòlasan iongantach a tha rim faighinn anns a’ bhaile mhòr eireachdail seo.
Mar chnà imh-droma Dhùn Èideann, chan eil anns an druim bholcà nach a tha a’ ruith bho Chaisteal Dhùn Èideann sìos an leathad gu Lùchairt Taigh an Ròid ach toiseach an iomadh là rach ri rannsachadh sa bhaile mhòr inntinneach seo. Le uimhir ri fhaicinn agus ri dhèanamh, chuir sinn seachad seachdain slà n ann an Dùn Èideann agus is gann gun do rinn sinn sgrìobadh air an uachdar.
Mar neach a tha dèidheil air dealbhan, tha gailearaidhean air leth agam airson Caisteal eireachdail Dhùn Èideann, lùchairt eireachdail Taigh an Ròid, am Britannia glòrmhor agus am Mìle Rìoghail mòrail. Tha na h-à iteachan sin a’ toirt sealladh dhuinn air eachdraidh is cultar beairteach a’ bhaile bheothail seo.
Tha Caisteal Dhùn Èideann aig ceann an iar druim bholcà nach suaicheanta ris an canar Am Mìle Rìoghail.

‘S e taigh-còmhnaidh oifigeil an teaghlaich rìoghail a th’ ann an Taigh an Ròid nuair a tha iad ann an Alba. Anns an lùchairt eachdraidheil is mòrail seo, a tha aig bonn a’ Mhìle Rìoghail ainmeil ann an Dùn Èideann, tha ailtireachd iongantach agus gà rraidhean eireachdail. Fhad ‘s a bhios an teaghlach a’ cur seachad tòrr ùine ann, ’s e Baile Mhoireil an taigh-còmhnaidh dùthchail as fheà rr leotha, far an teich iad gu sèimh shìtheil dùthaich na h-Alba.
Na shuidhe gu socair ann am Port Lìte tha an Royal Yacht Britannia eireachdail agus mòrail. Le a mòrachd agus a maise, tha i ‘na sealladh maiseach r’a fhaicinn, a’ tarruing suarachas do na h-uile a chuir an suilean oirre.
No visit to Edinburgh would be complete without a visit to these two major attractions, Edinburgh Castle and Palace of Holyrood. These two famous landmarks are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the amazing sights and experiences available in this magnificent city.
As the backbone of Edinburgh, the volcanic ridge that runs from Edinburgh Castle downhill to the Palace of Holyrood is just the beginning of the myriad of sites to explore in this fascinating city. With so much to see and do, we spent an entire week in Edinburgh and barely scratched the surface.
As a photo enthusiast, I have separate galleries for the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, the stunning Palace of Holyrood, the glorious Britannia and the majestic Royal Mile. These locations offer a glimpse into the rich history and culture of this vibrant city.
Edinburgh Castle is located at the western end of the iconic volcanic ridge that is known as the Royal Mile. This magnificent structure sits majestically atop a massive dolerite crag that was once a volcanic plug at the end of the volcanic pipe that formed the ridge of the Royal Mile. With its strong historical significance as a symbol of Scotland’s independence, Edinburgh Castle is a true marvel of ancient engineering and one of the most impressive castles in the world.

Holyrood House is the Official Residence of the Royal Family when they are in Scotland. This historic and majestic palace, located at the bottom of the famous Royal Mile in Edinburgh, boasts breath-taking architecture and stunning gardens. While the family does spend a significant amount of time there, their favorite country residence is Balmoral, where they escape to the peaceful serenity of the Scottish countryside.
Sitting serenely in the Port of Leith is the magnificent and majestic Royal Yacht Britannia. With her grandeur and elegance, she is a spectacular sight to behold, enchanting all those who set their eyes upon her.
