Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum is a stunning arboretum located in Gloucestershire, England, about 3 miles southwest of Tetbury. Managed by Forestry England, it is one of the most important and widely known arboretums in the United Kingdom.

The arboretum was established in 1829 by Robert Stayner Holford and later extended by his son George Lindsay Holford. It covers approximately 600 acres (240 hectares) and is home to around 15,000 trees and shrubs, representing 2,500 species from all over the world. The arboretum is divided into two main areas: the Old Arboretum and Silk Wood. The Old Arboretum features carefully designed landscapes with beautiful vistas and stately avenues, while Silk Wood is a traditional working woodland dating back to the 13th century.

Visitors can explore 17 miles (27 km) of marked paths, providing access to a wide variety of rare plants. The arboretum also plays a vital role in research and conservation, safeguarding around 100 threatened tree species. Additionally, Westonbirt offers a range of activities and attractions, including the STIHL Tree Top Walkway, a café, and various seasonal events.
